In 2022, the Bern Baroque Orchestra Les Passions de l’Ame will perform the early Handel oratorio “La Bellezza ravveduta nel trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” HWV 46a from 1707, with four vocal soloists and Vincent Flückiger in the role of the chronicler, reporter, commentator, translator, mediator, questioner and mediator. In the oratorio, allegorical personnel debate around the question of whether the triumph of time can be prevented under earthly conditions. The Arcadian poetry of librettist and cardinal Benedetto Pamphilii describes the doings, characters, idiosyncrasies and beliefs of the 4 interlocutori: Bellezza, Piacere, Tempo and Disinganno. The 22-year-old Handel set the rhetorical discourse to music in a tremendously virtuosic, colorful oratorio.
